Confederation and Constitution - Essay Example The benefits of the Articles of Confederation including the signing of an alliance between the United States and France in 1778. The American Revolution succeed due to the unity that existed between the States. The government successfully negotiated to end the American Revolution. The Articles of Confederation facilitated the formation of an organized government that allowed inhabitants to roam freely in all the states. It played a crucial role given that it was formulated at a time when the States had no agreement. Most people were skeptical about the formation of a central government because the unfair treatment by the British was still fresh in their memories. The Articles of Confederation had a unicameral system of government in which Congress was the only branch of government. On the contrary, the U.S. Constitution has three branches of government, which include the legislative, executive, and the judiciary. Every branch of government is independent. The Executive is mandated to carry out the law; the legislative makes the law, and the judiciary interprets the law. Under the Articles of Confederation, the national government had powers to declare war, negotiate peace, handle foreign affairs, borrow money, manage the monetary system, settle disputes between states, create a navy and build an army by asking for troops from the different states. The U.S. Constitution gave the National Government more powers. In the U.S. Constitution, the central government has is mandated to collect taxes, handle foreign affairs, raise and maintain an army.

Currently it uses traditional methods in selling operations and has not adopted itself to the latest method of selling, which is done through internet. Starting an online selling operation system and getting involved in e-commerce would benefit the company in many ways with the present days rapidly changing business world. Since Wijaya Group of Companies holds 22 outlets, they could build up an intranet which is an internal network based on Internet and World Wide Web technology standards. All the shopping centers therefore could be linked to one another. This system will help the chain to communicate and keep track of their stocks. Wijaya Group Of Companies could also develop an extranet, which is a private intranet that is accessible to authorized outsiders such as suppliers of the company. Suppliers could communicate with the company via extranet and supply products when needed and each shopping center may place orders when they reach a re-order level. This company could have their own lease line to keep connected to their most important suppliers. This company may start off their online selling procedure by launching their own Web site. This web site may include information about the chain, their products, and their branches, how to purchase a product online, payments, making orders, checking on new products, etcà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¦. They could use banner ads which are graphic displays on web pages used for advertising and the banner should be linked on to the company web site so that the person clicking on the banner will be transported to the company web site immediately. They could develop a portal which is a web site or other service that provides an initial point of entry to the web pr to internal company data. This portal could provide its viewers with a directory of information on the internet along with news, telephone directories, maps, shopping and other services. They could also develop their own internal portals to provide employees with streamlined access to corporate information resources. CostWijaya Group Of companies will be able to sell their products directly to retail customers via internet, by passing intermediaries such as distributors or retail outlets. The purchase transaction costs could be reduced in great numbers by eliminating intermediaries in the distribution channel (disintermediation). The company could also reinforce re intermediation by shifting the intermediary role in a value chain to a new source. The benefits of disintermediation to the consumer are illustrated below. Rs.128 Rs.120 Rs.100 As this processes show, the selling operation of the company could be changed into a much simpler process if the company adopts the online selling method, by reducing the extra responsibilities of retail outlets and distributors which will help to cut down the costs. The company can use interactive features of web pages to hold consumers attention or to capture detailed information about their tastes and interests. The company web site can be a bountiful source of detailed information about customer behavior, preferences, needs, and buying patterns and the company can use this information to tailor promotions, products, services and pricing. The web site of the company could also obtain customer information by asking visitors to register online and provide information about them. These information along with the consumers previous purchases could be recorded in the company web site and the next time the same consumer logs in, the web page could greet him/her by his/her name (ex: Welcome Peter) and provide the consumer with products similar to the previous purchases. This system will motivate the consumer to purchase products more often from C.I.B shopping centers and will help build strong customer relationships. Communications and product offerings can be tailored precisely to individual customers. Wijaya Group of Companies can create a unique personalized web page which is also known as web personalization that displays content or ads for products of special interest to each user. Apart from these, they can develop their electronic payment systems and receive payments online, and could create blogs to gather customer suggestions, they could even use their web site and e-mail to customer questions and provide customers with helpful information. The web site may also have link such as push to talk for instance where visitors could click on and request for a phone call in case of any inquiry and the company should have a call center connected with this link to provide this service. STEPS TO CRATE AN ONLINE STOREFRONT SHOPPING CART PROGRAMME MERCHANT ACCOUNT (BANK) PAYEMENT GATEWAY E-COMMERCE WEB SITE SHOPPER The above picture shows the process of online selling. The procedure of online selling statrs with the creation of a website of the company and ends with a transaction which is done via credit cards. Get Signed Up with the Best Wholesale Distributors If a company plans to expand its operations to online, it is important to search for the best wholesale distributors, drop-shippers and sign up with them. In this case it is vital for Wijaya Group Of Companies, to complete this task first inorder to run the online selling process smoothly. These wholesale distributors offer the lowest wholesale prices around and drop-ship the products directly to the customers location with the name of the business on the box, so that it will appear to your customer as if the package came from the oraganization itself. This will be a brilliant concept for Wijaya Group of Companies as it will help to increase the loyality of customers towards their products. Build Up the Online Storefront Creating a website is the next major step in this, the company will have to create and register their own unique domain name. (eg : www.cib-shop.com). The company has to choose a reliable web hosting provider as well. After selecting the unique domain name,it is important to create and design a professional and profitable Internet Storefront that will entice visitors to buy the products on their first visit. Select a suitable E-Commerce Software It is important to select software that suits the needs of the company. Through this Wijaya Group Of Companies will be able to take and process orders. Recommended Software : Product Cart Software Select a suitable way to collect Payments A sophisticated payment method is a must in online selling. Most of the organizations accept the credit card system today as it simplifies the transaction to the customer as well as the company. Wijaya Group of Companies can select the system as it fits, and some of the methods used by other organizations are: Real time Credit Card Processing through a number of supported payment gateways, Offline Credit Card Processing (eg : A company can use their POS if they have retail stores), Checks, Purchase order, PayPal, Google Checkout etc.. Key Facts in Online Selling Choosing the Right Niche This is a vital factor in online selling. The products a company plans to sell through online has a greater impact on the final value of sales, and this could be only achieved by selecting the exact niche market. Even after selecting the correct niche market if a company fails to deliver the updated information through working hard and introducing new features to their site in a daily basis still a company will fail to meet the targets set by the management. The Wijaya Group Of Companies will have to consider this matter seriously, if they want to achieve competitive advantage over their competitors. They must be in a position to update information of the new products immediately to the site and present it to the customers creatively. In the physical world, niches are based on geography, but Geography is almost irrelevant on the Internet. So it is important for Wijaya Group to choose a niche small enough that they can dominate and maintain it through constant updates. High Production Value In a print catalog, production values refers to the quality of the paper and printing processes used, the number and quality of images, and the care taken with graphic design. High production values are critically important in catalogs, which have to convince consumers to buy based on a few sheets of paper. Production values are even more important on the Web. Consumers will not buy from an amateurish Web site. Most of the people who visit a site will still find the idea of ordering online unusual as it requires a number of special facilities. The management of this company will have to concentrate on this matter, because the site created by them needs to inspire visitors with confidence. It should say that it is a kind of company that does things right, and that if a customer order something from there, it will be a good experience for them. Promoting the Site Having a great Web site is not enough. The success of it, relies on how far the site is capable of bringing in people to it. But promoting an online store is different from promoting an ordinary Web site, because through an online store a company targets to sell its products. Earlier the only answer available for promoting a site was through a Search Engine that provides space for all kinds of products. But recently Internet Hubs like Yahoo! And MSN have created areas just for shopping, giving more prominence to frequently requested products. If a company plans to advertise its products and sell those before its competitors, it is important to make sure that the site created by the company appears in the first place as soon as the customer request for similar sites. A company can achieve this by using the key words which relates to the products frequently, as it creates a greater chance for the search engines to filter it out. So it is important for the management of the Wijaya Group of Companies to look in to this fact and create a site which can be easily filtered by the search engines. It is important to use these key words (eg : the word clothes) in a natural manner and give out the relevant information to the customer, without irritating them by using it repeatedly in each and every sentence and phrase. Emphasize the Services Online selling is becoming popular in a slow pace in Sri Lanka, and the number of uses who make use of this facility keeps on increasing in a daily basis today. As it is in the verge of growth most of the people who visit a store will still find the idea of buying online a little strange, so it is important to reassure these customers. The most powerful confidence builder is a top-quality site: high production values go to work directly on the visitors subconscious. But its also important to reassure visitors explicitly. It is important for a company to ensure the security level of their site and the transactions done, as it will have a great impact on the buying patterns of a customer, and if a company is capable of providing the required level of security, they have to highlight it and mention it to the customer clearly, and this can be considered as an emphasizing of a service provided by the company. Advantages and Disadvantages in Online selling Advantages Online shopping malls give an immediate online presence. Sector-specific malls can provide an effective route to your target market. Theyre easy to set up for people with moderate IT skills. You dont need to go through the process of setting up anà Internetà merchant account. You often get help and support in getting your store operational. Updating your subscribers can be done almost instantly through email. Visitors to your website can get up to the minute information on each visit. If you are having a sale, your customers can start shopping at the discounted prices literally as soon as they open their email. The cost of spreading your message is next to nothing. Emailing your subscription base is more often cheaper than sending a letter through the mail. Disadvantages The online selling operation would definitely benefit the company in many ways when comparing with the traditional method which is followed at present. But introducing the new technology to the company may be very costly from the companys point of view in terms of equipment, staff, buildings, maintenance cost, etcà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¦. It may be very risky and the results would be unpredictable. Going online and selling online will require more professional and technical staff and since the system will eliminate paper work, a great number of employees will have to be terminated from their jobs. Incase the system fails the company will have to face the probability of losing its existing customers. Online selling operations require a special online payment scheme. These Payment Schemes have a greater risk of getting hacked, so the customers will be reluctant to give their credit card information and avoid this method of online selling. There is a lot of competition for the products introduced by an organization. By the time your customer finds you, they have tried out other links. Unless they can find what they are looking for quickly, they are gone. Recommendations The Wijaya Group of Companies should not directly stop conducting its business in the traditional method instead they should practice a parallel strategy where both the systems should be conducted. The company should adopt its web site according to the changing environment and not just stick to the basics of a web site ( ex: add more links) The company could develop a corporate intranet for the key departments in the business. ( ex: Finance and accounting, Human resources, Manufacturing and production, Sales and marketing) In order to attract the customers it is important to update the information available frequently.

Jesus, Paul, And Mohammed: Com :: essays research papers
Michael Hart is an amateur historian and also the author of The 100: A Ranking of the Most Influential Persons in History. In this book Hart lists in order the people he believes to be the top 100 most influential people. In this essay I am going to look at three specific people, and compare Hart’s ranking of their impact on society against my own. The three people are Jesus of Nazareth, the founder of Christianity; Paul of Tarsus, Christianity’s most important missionary; and Muhammad, the founder of Islam. Since religion did play a considerable role in the shaping of civilizations, it is no coincidence that these three people are respectively the three most important people in the founding of the top two religions in the world. Also Hart’s ranking of these three men will be analyzed, and compared to my own rankings of these three influential men. à à à à à In Hart’s book, The 100, he regards all three of these men as being very important in contributing to the rise of two great religions. In his ranking of the top 100 Muhammad, Jesus, and St. Paul rank one, three, and six respectively. Now right from this statement most people would believe that Hart is already wrong, and that Jesus should be one. In some sense those who believe that Jesus are right because the amount of Christians in the world almost doubles that of the Moslems. Yet if we carefully look at Hart’s reasons for ranking them the way he does, you would see that his ranking seems more understandable. à à à à à First we should start by analyzing Hart’s reasons for ranking Muhammad one. His main point for ranking him one, above Jesus, is because “ Muhammad played a more important role in the development of Islam then Jesus did on the development of Christianity';(9). He believes this statement to be true because St. Paul complemented Jesus in helping to spread the belief of Christianity. Though Jesus was responsible for the main ethical and moral precepts it was St. Paul who was the main developer of its theology, its proselytizer, and for writing a large portion of the New Testament. While on the other hand Muhammad was the only one responsible for the teachings of Islam, and also to the moral and main ethical principles. This is shown in the idea that the Koran, the sacred book of Islam, contains the teachings of Muhammad, and that his teachings are said to be the words of God. The invention of the first telephone was considered to be the foundation of the company which would later be known as AT&T Inc.à AT&T had been the only company providing the telecommunication services in the US, it can be said that it had the monopoly over the industry. (AT&T, 2010) In the year 1984 there was an agreement held between former AT&T and the US Department of Justice that the company (i.e. AT&T) would divest its local telephone operations but they will remain in control of their long distance services, R&D and manufacturing arms. The result of the agreement was the creation of SBC Communications Inc. (formerly also known as Southwestern Bell Corp). The Telecommunications Act of 1996 created drastic changes in the competitive telecommunication industry. After operating for 12 years, SBC Communications Inc. decided to go global. And it did it by acquiring Pacific Telesis Group in 1997, Southern New England Telecommunication in 1998 and then in 1999 it acquired Ameritech Corp. Going to college really does open a new chapter in everyone life, the beginning of new friendships, opportunities and growth. As a college student, a new student will be introduced to new areas of interest, broaden his vision of possibilities, establish and accomplish goals, develop lifelong friendships and define him or her in ways that he can imagine. Anyone on Earth already asked, or will ask himself where he would be in 10, 20 or even 30 years down the road. It is hard enough imagining what his life is going to be like in a year or two. Questions like ââ¬Å"Where do you want to be today, tomorrow and in the future?â⬠might be hard ones for young teenagers, who just graduated from high school. Attending college will help anyone answer those questions, develop a realistic plan for accomplishing his goals, and equip him with the knowledge and skills he will needs to see his goals through to the end. We usually assume that a college degree is necessary when it is not actually. We can also noticed that, because we place so much emphasis on degrees, people who have not attended college think of themselves badly, and this lack of self-confidence can really impede their success. There are some people for whom the college is actually not the best way to learn. However, a college education is an opportunity for everyone to learn what he loves. A new student can actually take the time to enjoy learning what he is truly passionate about. If he is interested in a variety of things and he is not sure where to focus, he can take his time to try them all. Nobody should look at college as a long-term contract that he is not going to be able to get out of once he starts. Anyone should feel like he needs to decide on a major area of study before starting college. College is a time for everyone to test himself, explore his interests, see what the possibilities are, and to see what he can achieve. Most other students attending college are going to be in the exact same boat . There are also a variety of resources, provided by most universities, to help anyone through college, including academic advisors, professors accessible on campus, tutoring academic support, full-time counseling staff and more. While the prospect of attending college may seem a bit daunting and even suffocating, a graduated high school teenager should not forget that he will still get to live his life. He will be able to participate in a variety of extracurricular activities, social groups, maintain a job, or even pursue a career while completing his studies. He may even find that college ends up being much more enjoyable and fulfilling than he ever expected. There are additional reasons as to why it is important to go to college. When students experience a post-secondary education, they have the opportunity to read books and listen to the lectures of top experts in their fields. This stimulation encourages students to think, ask questions, and explore new ideas. So, ââ¬Å"why should you go to college?â⬠The reasoning does not begin and end with the job aspect. A good education is beneficial from many different viewpoints. If any teenager is still asking himself why he should go to college, it is important to remember the significant amount of opportunity available for college graduates. The global economy is becoming increasingly more competitive, and in order to give him the best chance for a well-paying job, he must first understand the importance of college education. Attending college provides students with the knowledge and experience they are unable to receive from a secondary education, and finding a way to fund a higher education now can pay off in a huge way in the years to come.

That doesnââ¬â¢t mean you shouldnââ¬â¢t be a transfer student or that itââ¬â¢s a bad choice- it means you need to plan ahead and follow through, just as you would if you were a high school student applying to a four-year school. You can transfer schools for all kinds of reasons, but be sure you have a good reason when youââ¬â¢re applying. Youââ¬â¢ll be writing essays and potentially conducting interviews and visits, and being prepared to answer the question of why youââ¬â¢re transferring will make you a stronger candidate. Setting aside people who have no option but to transfer, such as those reaching the end of community college transfer programs or people in the military, there are lots of reasons you might want to transfer. But when youââ¬â¢re applying to schools, you should be aware that there are some reasons schools will see as ââ¬Å"goodâ⬠- as in, reasons that will make you an appealing student- and some theyââ¬â¢ll see as ââ¬Å"bad.â⬠What Are Good Reasons to Transfer? Good reasons to transfer are pretty much the same as good reasons to apply to a college from high school: You like an academic program a school offers You can see attending helping your ultimate career goals You like their mission as a college Your current school doesn't offer the program you want Your current school isn't a good "fit" What Are Bad Reasons to Transfer? Even if one of the reasons you want to transfer is something a college might see as bad, that doesn't mean that transferring isn't the right option for you. Keep in mind that colleges are looking for stronger reasoning- think more in terms of your long-term academic growth and potential than any immediate problems.Reasons for transferring that colleges might frown on include: You're not getting along with your roommate You're struggling to keep up with classes You're homesick If any of these are the reason that you're thinking about transferring, that's okay. But instead of framing your essay around how bad your roommate is, see if you can find another way to look at that problem. Is it really about your roommate, or is it because your school culture isn't a good fit? If itââ¬â¢s the latter, how will your new college fix the issue? Have you done more research to ensure the same problem doesnââ¬â¢t happen again? These are the kinds of questions you should be able to answer to assure your school that theyââ¬â¢re the right fit for you and that you wonââ¬â¢t want to transfer again later. How To Transfer Without Losing Credits Most transfer problems occur when trying to transfer credits. Some 40 percent of transfer students receiveno creditswhen transferring schools, equating to hundreds of lost hours and dollars with nothing to show for them. Thatââ¬â¢s why itââ¬â¢s important to make transferring part of your plan from the beginning if youââ¬â¢re starting at a community college- you need to be sure that your time and money are well-spent. Too few credits isnââ¬â¢t the only problem. Students can also end up with too many credits, which can be a hindrance, especially if youââ¬â¢re seeking financial aid or trying to get into a new degree program. Again, this means that planning is vital. The sooner you can be sure that you want to transfer, the better- a plan will help prevent wasting your time and money. To be sure youââ¬â¢re on track to transfer successfully, consult with an adviser and start researching your next schoolââ¬â¢s transfer department as soon as possible. If you can, contact your schoolââ¬â¢s transfer admissions office and see if they offer advising sessions or planning assistance. Don't feel like you're chained to your college if it's not a good fit! Basic Transfer Student Requireents To be a successful transfer student, the most important thing you need to do is be a successfulcollege student. The criteria colleges look for from transfer students is much the same as it is for graduating high school students, just scaled up. Good grades are one of the most important things admissions offices look for in transfer applications. If struggling in school is one of the reasons you want to transfer, be prepared to explain what steps you're taking to improve them in your college essay. The main focus of your essay should not be that you're struggling to keep up, but rather that you're addressing the reason for the struggle, such as a program that isn't a good fit.Even better, demonstrate that you're working to improve by continuing to work hard and improve your grades as you're going through the transfer process. Test scores are less important as a college transfer. Though schools may request them if you're transferring after just one or two semesters, the further you are into your college education, the less test scores matter. If it's been more than five years since you were in school and since you took a standardized test, you may consider taking the SAT or ACT again so that your transfer school has a good idea of where you're at academically, but if it hasn't been long and your college transcripts are solid, it shouldn't be necessary. If youââ¬â¢re an international student, you may have some additional considerations. Itââ¬â¢s important to work with your designated school official and be sure all your paperwork, including work and student visas, is up to date and accurate. As an international student, youââ¬â¢ll be contending with all the same obstacles as domestic students, with a few additional hurdles like language barriers, transferring papers properly, and visas. Plan as early as possible to avoid hiccups in the process. Finding the right transfer school is its own form of homework. How To Find the Right Transfer School No matter what your reason for transferring is, you want to know for certain that your next school will be a good fit. Transferring is a lengthy process that can result in wasted money if itââ¬â¢s not done properly, and the more you try to do it, the more likely you are to run into trouble. To minimize your need to transfer, research extensively. Make sure your new school: Has the degree program youââ¬â¢re looking for Offers extracurriculars that appeal to you Has a campus culture that you can see yourself participating in Has a mission statement that aligns with your values Those are just some of the things you should know before transferring. Imagine that you only get one shot, and whatever school you end up at will be your last. Are you happy with your choice? What concessions are you willing to make? As if you were applying straight out of high school, make a list of schools that appeal to you and narrow it down to a manageable amount. Be sure these are all schools you can see yourself at until youââ¬â¢ve completed your degree program. The Common Data Set and College Board can give you valuable information about school statistics, including transfer rates. Transfer rates should be factored into your list of colleges youââ¬â¢ll be applying to, as transfer rates can move a school from safety to reach depending on how many transfer students they admit per year. Many high-profile schools accept only a handful of transfer students per year, so your application needs to really stand out. When youââ¬â¢re applying, be sure that youââ¬â¢re following the guidelines specifically for transfer students. Deadlines may be different for freshman admissions, so keep an eye on when things are due specifically for transfer students. Coordinate with your adviserif you can to be sure that youââ¬â¢re on target with everything you need. You don't want your new school to see you as just another interchangeable Lego. What Do Universities Look for in a Transfer Student? One of the most important factors in your transfer application is why youââ¬â¢re transferring. This is also true for students transferring from community colleges- â⬠because I want to finish my degreeâ⬠is only half an answer, as schools will also want to know why youââ¬â¢ve chosen to transfer to your new school in particular. Even if your school doesnââ¬â¢t require a ââ¬Å"Why this school?â⬠essay as part of the transfer process, itââ¬â¢s good to have an answer in the back of your mind. Itââ¬â¢ll help inform your answer to whatever essay prompt they require, which can strengthen your writing. Because transfer acceptance rates are lower, itââ¬â¢s even more important that your essay be polished, interesting, and informative. Follow the typical best practices for writing a college essay, but also be sure that your essay tracks your growth as a college student and why transferring to this specific school is the right move for you. Aside from the question of why youââ¬â¢re transferring, colleges also want to see good grades. In the same way that AP and honors courses in high school demonstrate that youââ¬â¢re ready for college, success in college courses prove that youââ¬â¢re a strong student. Because college is an investment in you as well as for you, good grades are a reliable measure of success at your transfer school. The further you are from high school, the less your high school grades matter. Your transfer school will want to see college courses if you have them, so even if your high school grades are overall stronger, theyââ¬â¢re less likely to be a determining factor in your application if youââ¬â¢ve already put in a year or more at your current school. Distance from high school also means that your standardized test scores matter significantly less.If you're in your first or second semester of college, it's wise to include them since you haven't yet had a lot of time to establish a college-level academic record. If you're a full year or more into college, you probably won't need to include them, with rare exceptions. If itââ¬â¢s been five years since you last took a standardized test and your grades arenââ¬â¢t quite up to your new schoolââ¬â¢s standards, it might be wise to retake it. You can calculate your percentile versus the school average to better evaluate whether or not retaking the test is a good choice for you. Despite the additional criteria and lower rate of admissions, four-year schools are often looking for very similar features in freshman students and transfer students. They want to see a demonstrated effort to do well and commitment to a program, as well as a plan for how your new school will help you achieve your goals. A strong transfer application will look much like a strong freshman application, but with letters of recommendation and grades from college instead of high school. You need to work as hard on your transfer application as you would if you were transferring as a fresh high school graduate. What Information Should You Include on Your Transfer Application? Again, a good transfer application will look very similar to a good freshman application. However, youââ¬â¢ll need to scale everything up- with lower acceptance rates for transfer students, itââ¬â¢s even more important that your application be polished and strong. When it comes to test scores, grades, and letters of recommendation, be sure youââ¬â¢re getting them from recent sources. By college, your high school biology teacherââ¬â¢s assessment of you isnââ¬â¢t as relevant as a college professorââ¬â¢s assessment. If youââ¬â¢re just starting out in college, you might have a hard time getting letters of recommendation from your teachers as they may not have spent as much time with you. Seek letters from instructors who know you best, though be sure you know your new schoolââ¬â¢s policy on letters from teaching assistants. Some schools will only take letters from professors, so look that up ahead of time. Donââ¬â¢t reuse your high school letters. A positive letter from a college professor carries far more weight, so seek those out by meeting with your professors during office hours and by participating in class. These tips will help you make your application and beautiful and unique as this flower. Key Tips for Making Your Application Stand Out Knowing whatuniversities look for in a transfer studentis only half the battle- you also need to know how to turn that knowledge into action. #1: Know Why Youââ¬â¢re Transferring Of course, you should know why youââ¬â¢re transferring to a different school. But you should also demonstrate that knowledge in your application and interviews- schools want to understand the reason behind your decision, and it will almost certainly factor into your application essay. As discussed above, you should have a strong reason why transferring is necessary. Maybe youââ¬â¢ve changed programs or youââ¬â¢re looking to join a new community because your current one isnââ¬â¢t fulfilling. Donââ¬â¢t knock your current school to prop up your application- instead, focus on the positive aspects your new school has to offer. For example, say the community at your school isnââ¬â¢t really your scene. Maybe you were hoping for a thriving arts community, but your school doesnââ¬â¢t really have one. Instead of saying that you expected one thing and got another (suggesting to your new school that you didnââ¬â¢t do enough research, or accusing your current school of misrepresenting itself), frame it as a time of discovery. For example, ââ¬Å"As Iââ¬â¢ve developed as a student, Iââ¬â¢ve found myself more interested in being part of an artistic community, which [New School] is famed for. When I look at photos from poetry readings on campus or browse the current gallery exhibits, I want to see myself there, too!â⬠is a much stronger way of phrasing disengagement from your school community than, ââ¬Å"Pictures led me to believe that [Current School] had a lot of artistic events on campus, but that hasnââ¬â¢t been the case. I want to attend poetry readings and see artwork produced by students, not just football games.â⬠#2: Focus on Grades Grades are the biggest factor in transfer applications. Your grades need to be strong, especially with the limited acceptance rates for transfer students. If youââ¬â¢re struggling in your current school, identify the cause and try to remedy it before you apply. Even if youââ¬â¢ve already made up your mind to transfer, that doesnââ¬â¢t mean you should slack off in your current school. Transfer applications often require mid-year reports, which will ask your current professors to evaluate your performance and predict your grade at the end of the term. You want that report to be good, so keep performing well in your current classes. #3: Treat Your Application Like a Freshmanââ¬â¢s Despite having some college courses under your belt, you donââ¬â¢t necessarily have an advantage because transfer rates are typically lower than freshman admission rates. Because youââ¬â¢re not guaranteed a spot, put time and effort into polishing your application to its finest. An application is your opportunity to make a good impression, so donââ¬â¢t lean on your college experience to do the work for you. How would you promote yourself if you didnââ¬â¢t have it? College experience, even an associateââ¬â¢s degree, is like frosting rather than a whole cake. Donââ¬â¢t deliver your school a tub of frosting- deliver them a beautifully baked cake with the additional embellishments that come from college experience. The earlier you start planning, the better. When Should You Plan to Transfer? Ideally, youââ¬â¢ve been planning to transfer from the beginning, and youââ¬â¢ve been working with your adviserand transfer school to make the process smoother. But thatââ¬â¢s not always the case- sometimes you donââ¬â¢t foresee a program switch, or maybe youââ¬â¢re moving due to military enlistment. The best time to start planning for your transfer is when you start school. The second best time to start planning for your transfer is now, so get started right away! Once youââ¬â¢re certain that you want to transfer, set up an appointment with your adviserand go over your current credits, what credits will transfer, and what additional things youââ¬â¢ll need to successfully move to a new school. Create an academic plan and follow it. If you need to transfer sooner than a plan will allow, work with an adviserto determine your best path forward. Donââ¬â¢t try to do it all on your own- navigating required credits versus transferable credits can be extremely difficult, and having an advocate will make everything easier on you. If you do want to do some individual research, you can use College Transfer, a tool that helps students compare college transfer programs and find out if credits transfer,to get a good sense of how well youââ¬â¢re prepared to transfer. When to Transfer From a Community College Universities and community colleges often have partnerships, called articulation agreements, to make the transfer easier. These are a huge boon in transferring, as it means thereââ¬â¢s already a pathway for success. Take advantage of it if you can! If your current school and your desired school donââ¬â¢t have an articulation agreement, thatââ¬â¢s okay. It just means that youââ¬â¢ll need to be a little more diligent in your planning and research- again, the help of an adviserwill be invaluable. Generally, community college students transferring to a four-year university will want to do so after completing the requirements for their associateââ¬â¢s degree, meaning youââ¬â¢ll enter your four-year school as a junior. An associateââ¬â¢s degree effectively locks your credits in. If you want to take some time off before transferring, you can do so without worrying that your credits will depreciate. If you transfer before receiving your associateââ¬â¢s degree, your credits may actually lose value, meaning youââ¬â¢ll have to take more classes to transfer successfully, costing you more money and time. Thereââ¬â¢s no foolproof time in the year to transfer. Stay on top of your academic plan and your required credits, and plan to transfer when youââ¬â¢re finished. When to Transfer From One Four-Year School to Another There are plenty of reasons to transfer from one four-year college to another, but be sure that if thatââ¬â¢s your plan, that youââ¬â¢re not transferring for frivolous reasons. Roommate problems and homesickness wonââ¬â¢t read particularly well to admissions offices, so try to seek other solutions before deciding to transfer. The most important thing to consider is that many of your credits may not transfer. This might set you back in time and money, as you may end up retaking courses similar to those you already completed. Meet with an adviserto understand how to best select courses that will help you transfer successfully. Thereââ¬â¢s no best time of year to transfer, though if you donââ¬â¢t have enough credits, you may actually be transferring in as a freshman alongside first-time college students. Again, meeting with an adviseris your best bet to make sure you apply properly. When to Transfer if Youââ¬â¢re in the Military If youââ¬â¢re in the military, the decision to transfer schools may not be entirely up to you. Moving is common and often required, which means that the military has measures in place to ensure your education wonââ¬â¢t be seriously impacted provided you follow the rules. The GI Bill ensures that you have special allowances to attend multiple schools at the same time, provided that your courses are all part of the same program. These courses and credits can be transferred from one school to another with ease, meaning your transfer wonââ¬â¢t be as difficult as some others. However, the restrictions mean you need to be sure all your courses are part of your program, or you may run into trouble. Meet with an adviserregularly to be sure that youââ¬â¢re on track. Because you likely wonââ¬â¢t have much say in when youââ¬â¢ll need to move schools, the GI Bill ensures that you donââ¬â¢t have to be concerned about when you transfer. Just stay on target with your academic plan! When to Transfer if Youââ¬â¢re an International Student International students may transfer from secondary school in their home country to a four-year school in the United States, or from one four-year school to another. However, because of additional requirements for international students, itââ¬â¢s even more important that you be aware of deadlines, paperwork requirements, and credit transfer. Your visa may actually restrict which colleges you can attend, so be sure that youââ¬â¢re familiar with what schools you can transfer to. Schools may also have additional requirements or specific deadlines for international students, so always check that youââ¬â¢re in contact with the designated school official as well as any advisersyou have. You should always look for international student-specific information if it exists to prevent yourself from missing a deadline due to it not applying for international students. As with transferring schools for other kinds of students, thereââ¬â¢s no hard-and-fast ââ¬Å"bestâ⬠time to do it. All other information applies- if you have an associateââ¬â¢s degree, you may be able to transfer as a junior and lock in your credits. If you donââ¬â¢t have an associateââ¬â¢s degree, youââ¬â¢ll be evaluated on a course-by-course basis. Indicating Possession in Spanish
Indicating Possession in Spanish Many of the structural details of the English language - the parts of speech, punctuation, and even the addition of s or es to make words plural - have correlating structures in Spanish. But one common structure - the addition of an apostrophe followed by an sà - to indicate possessionà does not. So if you are going to indicate possession, whether literal or abstract,à in Spanish, here are three ways you can do it: Possessive Determiners Possessive determiners are often classified as a type of adjective, the equivalent of such English words as my and your. Like other Spanish adjectives, they need to match the noun they refer to in number and gender. Here are the possessive determiners of Spanish along with a sample sentence for each: Mi, mis (my, mine): Mi gato es muy peludo. (My cat is very hairy.)Tu, tus (your): à ¡Tus hijas y yo te necesitamos! (Your daughters and I need you!)Su, sus (your, his, her, their, ones): Su casa es su mayor inversià ³n. (Yourà house isà yourà biggestà investment.)Nuestro, nuestra, nuestros, nuestras (our): à ¿Hay limpieza à ©tnica en nuestro paà s? (Is there ethnic cleansing in our country?)Vuestro, vuestra, vuestros, vuestras (your): Me interesarà a saber ms sobre vuestro perro.à (I would be interested to know more about your dog. Vuestro and its forms are seldom used in most of Latin America.) Using De If you are using a name or noun to refer to the person or entity that is in possession, the prepositional phrase of de followed by the noun is used, as in el libro de Juan, Johns book. A few examples: Ver el perfil de Pablo. (See Pablos profile.)Ãâ°l no cree en el movimiento de mujeres. (He doesnt believe in the womens movement.)Es la madre de la estudiante. (She is the students mother.) It similarly is possible to indicate possession by using de followed by a pronoun, such as in de à ©l, but such usage is uncommon except when the use of a determiner would be ambiguous in the context. For example, if su libro (his, her, your or their book) would be ambiguous, we could say el libro de à ©l or el libro de ella (his book or her book). Possessive Pronouns and Long-Form adjectives Less common are the long form of possessive adjectives, which may be used as pronouns. They also may be used as adjectives following the noun. As with the determiners, possessive pronouns and adjectives much the possessed items or persons in number and gender.à These forms are as follows: mà o, mà a, mà os, mà as (my, mine).à El cocheà mà oà consume mucha gasolina. (Myà car consumes much gasoline.tuyo, tuya, tuyos, tuyas (your, yours).à La cama roja es tuya.à (The red bed is yours.)suyo, suya, suyos, suyas (my, mine). Las computadoras eran suyas. (The computers were hers.)à nuestro, nuestra, nuestros, nuestras (our, ours). Los perros nuestros son muy diferentes. (Ours are very different.)vuestro, vuestra, vuestros, vuestras (your, yours; this plural familiar form is seldom used in Latin America). El regalo es vuestro. (The gift is yours.) Sample Sentences Showing Possession La casa mà a estaba toda quemada. Lo perdà absolutamente todo. (My house was completely burnt. I lost absolutely everything. Mis pensamientos son los que me hacen sentir feliz o desgraciado. (My thoughts are what make me feel happy happy or miserable. Los retos de la vida son parte del viaje. (Lifes challenges are part of the journey.) La esposa del actor rompià ³ el silencio sobre los escndalos. (The actors wife broke her silence about the scandals.) la complejidad del ojo humano es increà ble. (The human eyes complexity is unbelievable.) En la creacià ³n de su imagen profesional, su actitud puede contribuir de forma positiva o negativa. (In the creation of your professional image, your attitude can contribute in a positive or negative way.) Su reputacià ³n puede sufrir ataques desde cualquier rincà ³n del mundo. (Ones reputation can come under attack from any corner of the world.) à ¿Cules son las diferencias tuyas con las otras candidatas? (What are your differences from the other candidates?) Ya se han muerto todas las esperanzas mà as. (All my hopes have died.) Era la ocasià ³n perfecta para explicar mis creencias. (It was the perfect time for explaining my beliefs.) Durante aquellos primeros aà ±os, la inteligencia de Einstein comenzà ³ a manifestarse. (In those early years, Einsteins intelligence began to show.)

Gift Ideas for Siblings When Youre in College
Gift Ideas for Siblings When Youre in College When you were at home, your brother and/or sister may have driven you up the wall. Or, conversely, you may have been incredibly close with your sibling(s). Either way, finding the perfect gift for a sibling can be a challenge especially when youre operating with a college students budget. So how can you find a gift that shows you care without breaking your bank account? Fortunately, family gifts allow for a little more creativity than, say, gifts for your boss. With a little pre-planning, your sibling gift can be one your brother or sister cherishes for a long time. Something From Your Campus Gift Shop You might see sweatshirts, t-shirts, and running shorts with your school name and logo all day, every day. But your sibling back home doesnt. Consider finding some kind of swag from your campus gift shop that you know your brother or sister will just adore. If nothing else, it gives them a chance to brag about what school you attend when people ask about their clothing! (And if a sweatshirt or t-shirt isnt in your budget, consider something cheaper, like a keychain.) Something Youve Learned About at College that They Might Also Like Are you both chemistry geeks? Grab that new biography of a famous chemist that you think sounds really cool. Do you both love to write poetry? Head to the campus authors section of your campus bookstore to see if any of your professors have published poetry collections recently. (Added bonus: You can ask your professor to autograph your copy!) Invite Them for the Weekend If you miss spending time with your brother or sister, dont wait until you head home to see them; give them the gift of a weekend with you on campus. You can use your meal plan to treat them to breakfast, lunch, and dinner while showing them all the fun and funky parts of your college life. (If youre staying in a residence hall, however, just make sure its okay to have someone who might be under 18 stay with you.) Items that Helped You Prepare for College If your younger brother or sister is planning on heading to college soon, too, consider giving them the things that helped you the most. Were there books that helped you adjust? Websites that helped explain things you were too afraid to ask about? Prep. books that helped you ace things like the SAT? Put together a collection of things you found most valuable as a gift that your younger sibling will undoubtedly find valuable, too. Time Doing Things Together Even if you catch up online and on the phone, it can be hard to be away from a sibling with whom youre emotionally close. Even if neither of you have much money, there are things you can do to spend time together. Consider going for a hike, walk, or run; going holiday shopping for your parents; or even volunteering together. Turn the time into your gift to your sibling by presenting a special invite in an envelope and offering to treat for something fun while youre out, like coffees or Slurpees from your favorite convenience store. Sometimes, its the little things that mean the most! Something that Reminds You Both of Growing Up Together ââ¬â¹A lot of candy shops offer decade-based boxes of candy that bring back the candy you grew up with. Additionally, you can put together a collection of your favorite movies or Saturday morning cartoons that you used to watch together when you were younger. Even a silly toy that you both coveted even one that is considered super old and obsolete now can make a great gift. Think back on the things you both cherished the most as you grew up and see what you can do to recreate something similar for a great present.

Using Technology within the Prescription and Medication Process Essay
Using Technology within the Prescription and Medication Process - Essay Example It is evidently clear from the discussion that the CPOE system used by hospital administrator made errors in the dosage prescribed and prescribed dosage as per the availability in the warehousing rather than as prescribed by the physicians. Moreover, the various screens, small font, and similarity in names also led to errors in matching prescription to the correct patient. Several scholars believe that structural-functional paradigms and organizational development processes are critical determinants of change. The structural-functional paradigm promotes the view that functional efficiency and structural modification increase the productivity. Thus innovation and new processes are identified to enhance organizational performance. Theory of organizational development is hugely pertinent as highlights organizationââ¬â¢s willingness to change in order to improve productivity. It not only creates facilitating an environment of constant learning but also introduces new technology to inc rease efficiency and productivity. The flexibility in approach is vital ingredient within the organizational changes that require the constant involvement of the management and workforce to implement the changes successfully. Effective communication becomes an important factor to empower workers with relevant information so that they are better equipped to accept change and exploit it for higher productivity. The theories become important because structural and functional changes are accompanied by dissemination of information and training on new processes. It helps the workforce to understand change and become proficient in using new technology to meet fresh challenges. These theories of change management identify, evaluate and implement the changes through empowerment of the people and therefore would help administrators at Springfield Hospital to solve the problem of medication error.

Prayer in Public Schools Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Prayer in Public Schools - Essay Example Prayer in schools has been debated for quite a long period of time now. This is because prayers are very close to oneââ¬â¢s heart, and should be respected for the link that a child (or for that matter a person) has with his God. There is absolutely no one else to fill the relationship as it is a two-fold link and cannot be seen as incomplete by any stretch of the imagination. Hence asking the children to pray just for fulfilling a condition is illegal and does not bring proper justice to the realms of freedom. Even though the young ones learn about religion, it is totally up to them as to how they want to perceive their world and their God in essence. The aspect that comes to light here is that praying in schools is conducted because students are being conditioned into learning something spiritual. What the teachers and the school authorities are forgetting essentially is that it cannot be ingrained into a child if he has not been taught about such nuances from his home (Bergel, 1988). There has to be a divide here because prayer is something that is very close to oneââ¬â¢s heart, and no alternate answers seem to exist or come about for comprehending the same principles. Further, since the students leave the class during prayer timings, both the parents and the teachers would be opposed to this phenomenon. No teacher would like his students to leave the class at critical junctures of the lectures or sessions (Hannabuss, 2011). Hence it is always a good omen to think of these activities in light of growth and development rather than favoring or disfavoring a particular religion or society for that matter. If this is done, success would automatically be achieved within the debate of prayers in schools. It would be a sound advice to have a neutral prayer in the morning rather than a prayer that is inclined towards a singular religion. This neutral prayer would tell the students that mankind is more important than vice and hence virtue shall remain supreme no matter how difficult the times are and what the world thinks of these scenarios that keep coming about every now and then.
Integrated Case Study Analysis Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 6000 words
Integrated Analysis - Case Study Example ee thirdsââ¬â¢, of having the companyââ¬â¢s revenue equally generated from goods made in China and sold overseas, and goods that are produced and sold overseas. As the company approached the third decade in its business operations, the CEO was aiming at even higher targets. The goal of the company was to attain deeper penetration of the market in both rural China and overseas. The goal was to be achieved by increasing the share of the market and adding the product categories. The fast growing Chinese economy as well as shifts in production facilities to China may have played a role in driving the company to globalize. The impact of the WTO on China after entry in 2001 added pressure on the company to solidify its brand and products globally and to also have a dominant position in the local Chinese market. However, Zhang experienced the challenge of maintaining the companyââ¬â¢s industry leadership in home (Archer & Cameron, 2013). The task of going global required Zhang to decide what lessons learnt from the international operations needed to be implemented at home and which lessons learnt from the domestic operations of the company needed to be applied in the international markets (Bonaglia & Goldstein, 2007). With the rapid growth of the economy in China, inflation peaked at 17 percent in 1995 forcing central banks to curtail lending by banks. As such, the Chinese government denied the company a loan of RMB 1.6 billion to curb speculation in the real estate. Zhang, faced with no other option of raising funds to expand the company decided to sell 43.7 percent of Qingdao Haier refrigerator division to the Shanghai Stock Exchange. The company was also faced by the challenge of penetrating global markets as its approach was to start with the difficult markets of the U.S and U.K whic h were already well established in consumer electronics and home appliances there by providing stiff completion for the Chinese company. This study has several objectives that it seeks to

Thought Control in the US - The Media and the Peace Process Essay
Thought Control in the US - The Media and the Peace Process - Essay Example Chomsky suggests that in America, you can say anything as long as it doesn't contradict the decisions that have already been made by the state and be obedient. As the broader meaning of thought control emphasizes the value of the human benefit under democratic setup, it is unfortunate to find political vested interests of an elite group of the state is protected by manipulating political thought control and behavioral conceptions. The author who has also written a famous book ââ¬Å" Necessary illusionsâ⬠argues that the U.S.A has followed this style of thought control since long ago and is presently reflected in its state policy towards Arab-Israeli conflict. He points to the contradiction inherent in the fact that, in survey after survey, the American public supports the concept of a Palestinian state. What makes it more interesting is that U.S.A which prefers military confrontation in Israel applies the ââ¬Å"principle of historical engineeringâ⬠which has also roots in Wilsonââ¬â¢s administration in 1920ââ¬â¢s and is nothing but historical containment of enemy through pervasive media propaganda and through imposing vested interests. He also comes up with another theory called ââ¬Å"Memory holeâ⬠which means that historical records are altered in defense of state policy and strongly argues that it is responsible for unilateral thought control process. Overall, he expresses anger over the manipulation of the control of thought by the U.S.A and the responsible journalists which in the true sense affects the peace process.... rical engineering" which has also roots in Wilson's administration in 1920's and is nothing but historical containment of enemy through pervasive media propaganda and through imposing vested interests. For the defense of state's policy through thought control process U.S.A relies on "Newspeak", "Media propaganda", Memory hole" and "Responsive journalism", the author discuses in a beautiful style. He draws from the political novel, 1984, by George Orwell to explain the chameleon character of words used by the government and subsequently by the press to direct the thought of control in defense of state policy. The word "peace process" is the best example of exploiting the newspeak in the context of Arab-Israel conflict. The meaning of this word varies from country to country, but the media propaganda directs the thought control in the interests of U.S.A. The author expresses shock over the response of media showing the example of Bernard Gwertzman's article in New York Times dated 2 June 1985 criticizing the Palestinian peace stand and favoring the stand of U.S.A. This has violated the original meaning of peace process and supports the emergence of newspeak. He also strengthens his theory of thought control by quoting the "responsible journalism" and strongly condemns the Gwertzman's false statement published in the New York Times stating that P.L.O has not supported the peace stand. He also comes up with another theory called "Memory hole" which means that historical records are altered in defense of state policy and strongly argues that it is responsible for unilateral thought control process. Even though there were strong Arab peace proposals as mentioned in Thomas Friedman's "Two decades of seeking peace in the Middle East" dated 17 March 1985, unfortunately
Energy Wedges Lab Report Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 1
Energy Wedges - Lab Report Example (Carbon Mitigation Initiative, 2006) This can be achieved by use of energy wedges to achieve a stabilization triangle. This triangle is to be made of eight wedges with each wedge representing a reduction of one billion tonnes of carbon emitted per year and hence a total of eight billion tones in reduction (Margolis, 2003). The four colors of the wedge pieces indicated the major category (fossil fuel-based (blue), efficiency and conservation (yellow), nuclear (red), and renewables and bio-storage (green). We choose a red, yellow, blue, or green wedge for our strategy andlabeled the wedge to indicate the specific strategy. For each of the 8 strategies chosen, we filled out one line in the Wedge Worksheet. After all 8 wedges had been chosen; we tallied total cuts from each energy sector (Electricity, Transport, and Heat) and costs. We then used the scoring table to predict how different interest groups would rate our wedge on a scale from 1 to 5. In the group discussion everyone contributed really substantially and significantly and we all agreed unanimously on the choice of wedges. The wedges selected as shown earlier in this report were due to the relative ease of achieving them. Also considering the effectiveness of each wedge we agreed that our choices were the best. Our group majorly based our choices on the relative costs as they were low cost and this would attract the political will as well as public will in general. (Hotinski, 2007) Each of the 8 strategies above has the potential to reduce global carbon emissions by at least 1 billion tons per year by 2054, or 1 wedge. A combination of strategies will be needed to build the 7 wedges of the stabilization triangle. In summary, No one strategy will suffice to build the entire stabilization triangle. New strategies will be needed to address both fuel and electricity needs, and some wedge strategies compete with others to replace emissions from the same source.

The Red Badge of Courage Analysis Essay Example for Free
The Red Badge of Courage Analysis Essay In the novel, The Red Badge of Courage, a theme shows itself during a battle, in the civil war. It is the battle towards maturity and adulthood. A soldier by the name of Henry Fleming, also known as the youth, shows this theme. However this can be argued, especially about the last scenes in the novel. Henry Fleming is an immature soldier who enlists in the army looking for the Spartan glory he found in stories. ââ¬Å"They might not be distinctly Homeric, but there seemed to be much glory in them. He had read of marches, sieges, conflicts, and he had longed to see it all. â⬠(Pg 6) Henry shows little maturity in his decision to enlist. He looks for a grace amongst death. ââ¬Å"He had grown to regard himself merely as a part of a vast blue demonstration. â⬠(Pg 11) During the beginning of battle he begins to see a broader spectrum in the world. He begins to see that he is not an individual, but a part of a group. Henry begins to find adult hood, he loses some selfishness and begins to look towards others with compassion. He felt the subtle battle brotherhood more potent even than the cause for which he was fighting. â⬠(Pg 56) However, Henryââ¬â¢s immaturity is shown when he deserts a dying soldier and flees from a battle. ââ¬Å"The youth looked at him, could see that he, too, like that other one, was beginning to act dumb and animal-like. â⬠(Pg 44) As Henry leaves the dying tattered solider, he feels remorse, wondering why he was so stupid to abandon his friend. A childish action to say the least. Henry returns to his platoon feeling guilty for his abandonment of both the platoon and the solider. He goes onto be accepted back into the platoon, they are unaware that he abandoned them; he goes on to fight heroically in a battle. After a high-ranking officer makes a derogatory remark about Henry, Henry changes his attitude. He accepts the comment without rebellion and shows respect, which shows his growing maturity. Because of the success of fighting bravely, Henry has the self-esteem to deal with his mistakes as an adult. As a mature solider he can learn from his mistakes. By the end of the novel, Henry has changed and he knows it. He has become a soldier that gained courage, responsibility, and can admit his wrongdoing. He can never make up for deserting the dying soldier, but now entering adulthood he can ââ¬Å"put his sin at a distance. â⬠By gaining new qualities and confronting his cowardice, he is truly mature: ââ¬Å"He felt a quiet manhood, nonassertive but of sturdy and strong blood. He was a man. ââ¬

Effect and Impact of Mergers on Employee Morale
Effect and Impact of Mergers on Employee Morale The vital industries of Pakistan banking sector plays immaculate role to proof his growth in different footings. From the beginning till now banks pursues innovations n more service indicators to sustain their existence in the field of banking. Apart from the local banks side so many big foreign international banks also step in as Pakistan Banking sector was hot cake in those days even now. The total illustrated deposit collected by the foreign banks in from the period of 80s to 90s that was around 37000 million in rupees (Article from: Economic Review Article date: October 1, 1990 Author: Haque, Ansarul). The first foreign international bank registered in Pakistan was Doha Bank Ltd and then by Faisal Al-Islami of Bahrain. All the banks are still now completely regulated by State Bank of Pakistan from its complete formation in 1948. The procedure and policies are completely and compulsory followed by all commercial including foreign banks in Pakistan. Banking sector in Pakistan pass out from different phases such as privatization of banks was the big step taken to encourage the banking field to get more flexible and awe-inspiring results. The main reason to encourage these banks becoming privatize to introduce new and sound financial products for both individuals as well as business solutions and they did so as foreign banks such as Citi Bank covers a wide range of financial products to its customers in first. In Recent era now every big bank is offering a wide variation of flexible financial solutions to its customers with the customer needs and attention with the effect of providing good customer services by applying Quality Service Indicators in every branch of every bank. Banks in Pakistan nearly providing same financial solution to the nation but that bank will survive who retains the customer by giving them personal interest through quality services. From last few years back, banks in Pakistan are getting involved in merger and acquisition activities such as in 2006 Standard Chartered Bank acquired Union Bank and in 2007 NIB Bank Ltd acquired the PICIC Bank, and after that ABN Amro bank acquired Prime Commercial Bank which was later acquired by the RBS Bank. And now the RBS Bank is purchased by the Faysal Bank Ltd in October 2010. These merger and acquisition activities shown a rapid change of banking culture but the employees are those who suffer from these M/A stages even mostly lost their jobs due to commitment with new management. The mainly purpose to conduct this study on merger and acquisition of banks and its effect on employee job satisfaction because there has been seen a big change in shape of merger activities after the big financial crises that effects the whole world business strategies in different mode so many employees getting jobless. Every segment of work or business and individuals of the nation is affected by the financial crisis due to the cycle of collecting deposits and lending money chain broken. Peoples do not have the power to save the money in the banks because of less profitability and more expenses that reduced the profitability of the banks too and let them to merge and acquisition themselves with another well-established bank that bear their costs and their existence too. During merger and acquisition activities lots of employees victimize in different terms. They suffer from the stiffed phase of their job. Most of the employees job satisfaction level goes ultimate down as they thin k they will be getting fired or jobless as new management would be come up with new teams of professionals and new procedure of working conditions in this way their morale level affected. Mainly, after merger and acquisition activities, there are two aspects come into headlines which are related to those employees who are coming from different organization with this attitude to adjust themselves in new environment with challenges. So there morale is high due to stress push them to survive in new environment. The other aspect of employees are those who are suffering from merger process that either the organization needs them more or they will be getting jobless due to next management rules (Leigh Richards, Demand Media 2010). This uncertainty let their motivation level down which effect their job satisfaction too. Main objective to conduct this study on the effect of merger and acquisition to employee morale is to identify those factors which let the morale level high or down after merger and acquisition of two or more industries. Mostly it has been seen the negative relation that the merger and acquisition of two sectors impact positively to let the morale level down of employees which result job dissatisfaction too. But this also has been that the merger and acquisition activities will also boost the employee level to survive among the best and hold their position in the changing environment. Low morale employees can also hurt the organization structure too as Bohl (1989) stated that poor morale is contagious. It may begin with one dis-satisfied employee and broaden into a general malaise, or spread from department to department and finally infect the entire organization. Insidious as it may be, poor morale is reversibleà ¢Ã¢â ¬- (p. 52). My research addresses the questions that what relation exists between after the event of merger and acquisition of banks and morale of an employee. Either this relation positively affected or negatively. The other question is to be asked that the significance of that relationship which reveals the facts that either the relation is strongly effect or slightly or normal. Even the research questions include the material which explains the level of effect of those factors effect on employee morale. The other question which needs the explanation most is that the results outcomes occurs from the event of merger and effects on employee morale. Either employee morale goes down or they dissatisfied from their jobs and tend to leave the job to replace themselves in another bank or their morale is too high to put more efforts to achieve the success level from the merger activities. The last but not the least question needs the answer is that the morale level of the employees of RBS Bank after getting acquired by Faysal Bank is getting high to work better or getting low by losing their brand loyalty and organization commitment merge with another and about what extent of ratio resign or fired from the bank or join the bank after merger activity. Business reason to conduct this study is to find out the tendency of those employee who left the job after this merger and acquisition activities that affects their work image, their brand loyalty, their organizational commitment and their change of culture dimensions or to find out that is this business strategy of merger and acquisition of banks is useful to motivate the employees to work in different environment to get the chance be a professional and succesful as they were neglected. From the perspective of management, merger activities are more useful and beneficial to get the cream of professional and other resources and let the others go and start a new and diversified culture but on the other perspective from employees it may be beneficial and may be not because of changing culture and uncertain information about the new rules and procedure for working. The personal reason for this study is to be as a student of management sciences and as an employee of a bank MCB Bank Ltd, s een the stage of merger activities. MCB Bank Ltd purchased the RBS Bank initially even the both bank system was getting merged but due to political issues this deal was cancelled. In that period the thing which was examine that the employees of RBS Bank are not happy to be acquired by another bank as they lost their identity and loyalty. LITERATURE REVIEW: There are number of series of literature review published on merger or acquisition and on employee morale which shows a considerable subject of research. The term merger in context of baking field is when two banks willingly operated as a single identity or operated by a single bank is known as merger as (Greenwood, 1994) define, A merger involves a blend of two companies, rather than mere legal enjoinment or absorption of one firm into another. Merger and acquisition are now means to be more important to achieve the corporate diversity and growth (Cartwright Cooper, 1992). Even merger of two is defines as a process in which the merged company loses his identity to be one firm by the acquirer (Kithinji Waweru, 2007). It has been seen that if there is any change recognized in the organization that affects the individuals (Wilson, 2004). (Tehrani, 2007) changes from merger have seen negative impact on well-being in context to accept that change and can also add the stress on workplac e level. As (Vaananen, 2004) measured change solely through employees perceptions of whether or not their standing at work had changed during the period of a merger. The effect of merger and acquisition on employee moral can have significant impact if the reorganization of the merged firm is not handled successfully. Change from the result of merger can be difficult and leads to the stress that has a negative impact on employee morale (Richards, 2009), and the factor which lead to the stress is lack of communication passes from top level to lower level management during merger times (Pophal, 2009). (Cofer Appley, 1964) Focus on stress by this term stress . Has all but preempted a field previously shared by a number of other conceptsà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¦. (p. 441) which includes the level of anxiety, conflict, frustration, emotional disturbance, trauma and many other factor discussed under the reference of stress. Through this we easily identify that stress impact on employee morale level. Workplace environment changes make an effect on employee behavior which either downgrade their morale or either upgrades their morale to accept the change for workin g flexibility if provided by that reorganization firm. (Pract, 1998) explains the stress and morale getting poor in the context of general practitioners where this concern is positively seen. (Robertson, Haton, Felce, 2005) also tested the results of stress from workplace change and the level employee morale. This field study also resulted in the context of change of environment. This would entail the fact as the workplace environment change then the stress on well-being affected in any terms. (Deborah, Victor, Callan, Sartori, 1999) in which they discuss the factor of stresson employee adjustment due to the organizational change. As we know the merger activities includes the process of merging two or more organization then the culture clash is obvious thing which is hardly accepted by the employees and this would let their morale down (Pophal, The effects of Merger and Acquisition on Employee Morale, 2009). This have been seen that after merger activities, mostly new management comes up with new policies and the HR role starts to hire the new professional to complete the gap due to this merger activity happened leads to fear of job-less from the organization and this would let their morale down during the merger activities. According to (Sen, 1997) Unemployment can be a major causal factor predisposing people to social exclusion. The exclusion applies not only to economic opportunities, such as job-related insurance, and to pension and medical entitlements, but also to social activities, such as participation in the life of the community, the lack of which may be quite problematic for jobless people. (Difonzo Bordia, 1999) A tale of two corporations: Managing uncertainty during organizational change in which they suggest the reason of ineffective strategies of communication during the organizational change which lead to flourish the rumors and let the employee morale either positive or either negatively. (Difonzo Bordia, 1999)- Human Resource Management, 1998 also find out the in his field study that the employee morale were unanimously drooped down and the level of anxiety has been intense and the comments from the management that youre going to be rid of me, so why should I continue to work so hard? shows the morale level so down. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY: The Type of Study: The type of study is deductive in which the variables have been taken from empirical data and other journals and articles. And this study is descriptive in nature which describes the relationship between the variables and their effect on employee morale during the merger activities. Theoretical Framework: Stress Employee Morale Managing Uncertainity MERGER ACQUISITION Competitiveness Anxiety of Jobless Hypothesis Building: Following are the hypothesis testing in this field study on effects of merger and acquisition on employees morale. H1: Merger and Acquisition activities results into higher employee morale H2: Merger and Acquisition activities results into lower employee morale H3: Merger activities results high stress level impact on employee morale level H4: Managing uncertainty has a positive significant impact on handling employee morale level H5: Merger activities increase the competition which results lower the employee morale level H6: Merger activities increase the competition which results higher the employee morale level H7: Merger activities increase the anxiety level of getting jobless which results lower employee morale level Sample size that you have chosen and why you have chosen that sample: The sample size of this field study is based on the survey through questionnaire filled by 150 employees from 6 different branches of RBS Bank acquired by the Faysal Bank Ltd. Large number of questionnaire filled by lower and medium level of employees working in different branches and also filled by the management professionals to see what they observed from this merger and acquisition activity and its effect on employee overall focusing on their morale level too. Data collection tools to be used and why you are using that tool: This field study is based on secondary data collection in which empirical research done on merger and acquisition activities and their effect or impact on an employee morale data includes to find out the significance of relation between merger and employee morale through the level of stress, managing uncertainty, anxiety of jobless, competitiveness and role conflict exists in the study of RBS Bank merger or acquisition by Faysal Bank Ltd while the primary data for this study is gathered by the survey through complete research questionnaire about merger and its effect or impact on employees morale filled by the employees of RBS Bank and even with Faysal Bank Ltd. The questionnaire is based on likert scale from 1 to 5 questions where 1 shows strongly disagree and 2 shows disagree and 3 shows neutral answer and 4 shows agreed and 5 scale shows strongly agreed with the said questions. The main purpose to use these tools to easily find out the relation and impact of merger on employee mor ale through empirical data and that data would be proved through the survey questionnaire from the employees of acquired firm which id RBS Bank. What software would you use and why would you use it: This field study is based on different variables relationship effects on employee morale. First the data has been taken from secondary sources including research articles, journals and also from primary sources through field survey questionnaire from RBS Bank employees then arrange the data and found the co relational analysis done. SPSS 14 (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) software used for analysis of the attained data. The SPSS software is most useful systematic programmer to find out accurate results by calculating large amount of data easily and in short time. SPSS software gives the values of co relation of variables and regression values in a tabular format. LIMITATIONS OF THE RESEARCH: This field study on the variables effects on employee morale from merger and acquisition activities is limited by so many other factors due to time constraint to get the most accurate results either they influence on results. Even the size of the sample is also limited in number such as billed by 150 employees of RBS Bank in which mostly are lower level working in different branches and some are filled from middle level management professional to gain their opinion too. This sample size was enough to find out co relational values between the relation of merger and its effects and impact on employee morale. The results cannot be truly accurate due to biasness of filling such survey questionnaire but can be rarely happened. The variables have been taken are also limited because to find out most close relationship between their co relation existence. FUTURE RESEARCH DIRECTION: There are many areas still undiscovered with the relation of M/A activities and there effect on organization culture and boundaries. In which the effect was only seen with the relation of employees and human capital activities but not with the assets, records, liabilities due, customer feedback, customer acceptance and loyalties. These are still not closely look into with the relation of merger activities of organizations. Such in these activities the questions should be asked from the customer of those banks which are going to be acquired by the other bank that are they happy with this activity of merger, do they seen this thing positive in sense, do they get benefit after this merger activity or not, would they continue to work with the same bank or will shift to another well-established bank. These are the questions still needs answers from the perspective of merger and acquisition activities of banks. Another direction would be in the same context is to find out the after merger activities of banks and role of HR manager to manage the uncertainty level of the employees during merger process. We have seen that there is a lot of stress on employees while merger is in progress but no such communication transfer to the employees which result the employees are unaware from such activities and getting afraid that how the new management treat with them, are they getting jobless due to not fulfilling the set criteria by the new management, or they would be given more work and responsibilities. These rumors or thinking process of employees let their motivation level down due to their job satisfaction effected. For that purpose the role of managers is most required to communicate the employees and ensure them the safety of their job and their professional as well as social value in the organization by using useful tools such as re-screening of employees or through motivational activity tools. Some research may work on it but not deeply inside. WHO WOULD BENEFIT FROM THIS STUDY? This study is done for the purpose to find out the relationship of morale after the merger and acquisition process of RBS Bank and Faysal Bank Ltd which would benefit to the management of Faysal bank in the context that now the employees of their organization are truly motivated with high morale or they are not motivated by low morale due to this merger activity. In this way the organization would easily make some managerial tools to utilize their human capital employees such as by motivating them a part of Faysal Bank Ltd which gives them new loyalties and more flexibility of their jobs and work and giving more attention and more rewards program from the previous one. The other would get the benefits mostly are the human resource department which understand the need of communicate the merger policies and terms to clarify the questions of employees. HR department tend to be more ethical and friendly to support their employees by communicating them about the M/A activities. Communicat ion gap from management to lower level employees during merger and acquisition activities have been seen a big issue.
